The 57 gallon Urban Rain Barrel" (URB) is a FOOD GRADE unit designed to catch rainwater from your downspout. Provides a source of chemically untreated water for flowers & plants and compost while diverting water from uncontrolled dumping into your yard or municipal storm drain system. Many home owners in metro areas are being asked to disconnect their downspouts and storm water drains from the sewer and municipal systems to help protect our rivers and streams.
With linking kit to connect multiple barrels, water storage can easily be expanded to 114 gallons, 171 gallons or more. A formula to remember: 1 inch of rain on a 1000 sq ft roof yields 623 gallons of water. Calculate the yield of your roof by multiplying the square footage of your roof by 623 and divide by 1000.
To better use our resources and reduce costs, note that we use a recycled commodities food grade barrel for this unit so it will vary a little in size and condition. It is now available only in black.
