2.69 Cat Grass (Oats)

Large Packet

Vegetable, Herb, Flower, Indoor

Avena sativa
Description: Want to keep your cats from eating potentially harmful house plants? Satisfy your cat's green tooth with cat grass! Assists your cat with furball elimination, provides certain vitamins and minerals to your cat's diet, and keeps your cats from wanting to graze on the outdoor grass - which might contain pesticides and sticks to the back of their tongues.
Seeding Info: Plant anytime indoors in a large/low pot big enough that the cats won't knock it over. Place in a bright location.
Water: Seedlings must be kept moist (not soggy) at all times until they emerge from the soil surface. After that time, water when soil surface dries out.
Exposure: Most seedlings need 12-16 hours of light from fluorescent tubes placed 2" away from the seedling - NOT TRUE with Oat Grass! Just a bright window will supply enough light to get Oat Grass to the 2" - 4" height needed for cats to start munching down! Of course, if you have light tables for your seedlings, oat grass will grow faster, stronger, and will be somewhat more nutritious under lights.
Special Care: Place grass near their water or food bowl for only a few minutes so that they don't binge and end up vomiting. Feed for a few minutes on a regular basis - this will get the cats digestive systems used to the grass and they will vomit less and less. Cats are attracted to grass because of the high moisture and fiber contained in it. Oat grass is more tender than lawn grass. Lawn grass MAY contain pesticides and dirt that are not good for cats.
Harvest Info: Grass is ready for cats to eat when it is 2" - 4" high.
