Description: Grown for the asparagus like spring
shoot. There is a reason the Europeans love Broccoli Raab; it is a
connoisseur's delight! The tender stems, buds and flowers have a wonderfully
delicate slightly bitter/spicy/peppery broccoli flavor which can be
enjoyed in salads, stir-fried, or steamed. Known in Italy as Broccolo
asparago or asparagus broccoli.
Seeding Info: Plant as soon as soil can be worked
in spring or 4-6 weeks before average last frost. Also, in late summer
for fall harvest. In mild winter climates, can be sown in late fall
for winter, early spring harvest. Sowing outside is recommended.
Culture: Cool season crop.
Soil: Will tolerate most soils, but prefers light,
loamy soils.
Water: Must be kept moist - do not dry out!
Exposure: Full sun.
Fertilizer: Once seedlings come up, apply an organic,
well balanced fertilizer to soil IF you feel your soil needs nutrients.
Harvest Info: Ready to harvest in 45 days. Cut the
budding shoots just before the flowers open. Continue until shoots
are small and tough.
